Personally I prefer to compost the grass cuttings (in layers with other material to avoid a thick wet mess developing in the heap). But fresh grass cuttings are good spread along rows of carrots - they eventually disappear but the grass smell puts carrot fly off from decimating your attempts to raise carrots.
