Travelogue
« on: January 03 2008 11:26:01 AM »
Here's an opportunity to share with the rest of our community where we've been, on holiday or business.  Don't tell about what Aunty Maud did, or about the business, but we'd love to hear about the place you've been to, how you got there, and what happened on the way.
Maybe, we could share one or two pictures...

OK, I'll start then:
One of the reasons for moving to Stortford all those years ago was for the excellent travel connections, the motorway, airport and rail.
Now KLM have pulled out...

I had to visit a factory in Epinal, France, last month, and surprisingly, the best route was by train.  I drove over the QEII bridge into Kent, immediately turning left on the new A2 flyover into Ebbsfleet International Railway Station.  As stations go, it was excellent - recommended - however, it is still early days.  The security guys (tip: never joke with them - they can make your life very difficult) were exceedingly friendly, and helpful beyond the call of duty.

From Ebbsfleet, I got the Eurostar into Paris, Gare du Nord (North Station) then had a 400m walk over to the Gare de l'Est (East station).  At Gare de l'Est, they have cheaper public toilets downstairs at only 50 Euro cents - would have been better to go for free on the train!

Gare d l'Est is a terminal station for TGV, which was an allocated seat train running straight down to Epinal.  Easy peasy!  Slower than the plane, but people smile - even if they do talk funny! Everybody' was so friendly.

Both trains: eurostar & TGV, have power points (european style - need an adaptor) so if you want to use a laptop you can easily plug in - next time I'll specify a window seat so I can use them! Rear-facing & Centre of Carriage for least movement too!

Who needs Ryandon'tcAir or QeasyJet?

Environmentally better too.  My colleague is returning but this time via eurostar St. Pancras - Report to follow
